The United States Gross Domestic Product (GDP) revealed a 4.9% expansion in the three months to September quarter-on-quarter, a slight adjustment from the initially reported 5.2%.  This was the fastest pace of GDP expansion since the fourth quarter of 2021.  However, momentum appears to have faded in the final three months of the year as consumer spending takes a break.  Nevertheless, the growth pace is likely to remain strong, with retail sales rising in November and single-family housing starts and building permits reaching 1-1/2-year highs.  The fourth quarter growth estimates hover between 1.1% and 2.7%. Healthy Labor Market: The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits rose just marginally last week to 205,000, reflecting historically low layoffs. UK CPI Surprise: The UK's Consumer Price Index (CPI) presented a 3.9% increase in November, slightly below market expectations. The Core CPI, excluding volatile items, also eased.  3. Steady Rates in China and Japan: China's one-year loan prime rate (LPR) and over-five-year LPR remained unchanged, aligning with market predictions. Simultaneously, the Bank of Japan maintained its easy credit policy, keeping the benchmark rate at a stable negative 0.1%. 4. Oil Market Tensions: Oil prices climbed, crossing $74/bbl on the WTI, propelled by heightened tensions in the Red Sea. So, that was a busy week.
