The Texas Supreme Court ruled against a woman at the center of an abortion battle.

What's happening? Kate Cox, 31, petitioned a judge to get an abortion in Texas, which has a near-total abortion ban, after learning her fetus had a fatal genetic condition.
Yesterday: The state's high court reversed a lower court decision that would have allowed the procedure. Cox had already left the state for abortion care.
The bigger picture: This is the first case of a woman asking a court for permission to terminate a pregnancy since Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973.
