Donald Trump was disqualified from Colorado's 2024 primary ballot.

Why? Because he "engaged in insurrection" during the Jan. 6, 2021 attack, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled yesterday.
It's historic: It's the first time a court has disqualified a presidential candidate under the U.S. Constitution's 14th Amendment, which prevents insurrectionists from holding office.
What it means: If other states make similar rulings, it would be difficult — if not impossible — for Trump to secure the Republican presidential nomination. He plans to appeal.

The U.N. is searching for a Gaza resolution that the U.S. won't veto.

Today: The U.N. Security Council is meeting in its latest attempt to pass a resolution calling for a halt in the fighting in the Gaza Strip, which has overwhelmed hospitals.
The problem: The Biden administration has vetoed several cease-fire resolutions, arguing that ending Israel's offensive in Gaza could effectively hand victory to Hamas militants.

A record-setting East Coast storm left at least five people dead.

What happened? The storm brought floods and damaging winds from Florida to Maine. It swept into Canada yesterday, but its impact continued to be felt in the Northeast.
The latest: More than 400,000 customers still had no power late yesterday — most of them in Maine — and flood warnings were in effect for many river areas.

The FDA found "extremely high" levels of lead in an applesauce ingredient.

What to know: An inspection of a plant in Ecuador found cinnamon samples containing lead levels over 2,000 times as high as proposed limits in food, the FDA said this week.
Why it matters: It's part of an investigation into at least 125 cases of lead poisoning in children in the U.S. linked to contaminated cinnamon-flavored applesauce pouches.

Minnesota unveiled its new flag design yesterday.

What it shows: The navy part on the left forms an abstract shape of the state and the eight-pointed star is a feature in Indigenous art. If approved, the design will debut in May.
Why it's needed: The current flag has been deemed offensive. It shows a White settler, a rifle leaning on a tree stump and an Indigenous man riding away on horseback.

Apple is stopping sales of its new watches.

Why? The Watch Ultra 2 and the Watch Series 9 are subject to a patent dispute. A medical firm says Apple copied its technology for a feature that monitors blood oxygen levels.
What it means: Apple will stop selling these watches on Apple.com after 3 p.m. Eastern tomorrow and in its stores after Sunday.

How we know: Researchers tracked apes' eye movements as they were shown photos of one ape they used to live with and one they didn't know. Most lingered on their friends.
