Your Signature is Needed: Save two orca calves from starvation

URGENT ACTION NEEDED: Don't let the two orca calves die of starvation before they're even given names! Take action now! >>

TWO baby orcas were born into the same Southern Resident killer whale pod as the beloved, deceased matriarch Marina. Given that 69% of orca pregnancies end in miscarriage, we're thrilled to welcome these calves into the world!

Sadly, there is a part of us that is extremely worried, Friend. You see, the mortality rate for newborn orcas is as high as 50% — so they must survive at least a year after birth before even receiving names.

Vulnerable and weak, surviving their very first year isn't going to be easy for these two little creatures. Especially not with corporate overfishing and bycatch depleting Chinook salmon populations, leaving orcas starving and malnourished.

These endangered orcas are clinging to survival, and the birth of these two babies is a hopeful sign of recovery. But if the helpless calves are going to have a chance at life, we MUST replenish the Chinook salmon populations immediately. The two orcas calves are counting on us to be their voice to stand up to greedy fishing corporations. Will you speak up now?

If the two orcas had been born at a different time, maybe their future would look a bit brighter. The Pacific Northwest waters were once abundantly flowing with food supply for orcas — before industrial overfishing contributed to a loss of 159 salmon populations. That's almost HALF of the historic salmon runs!

Unfortunately for these baby whales, the Southern Resident orca population is at its LOWEST point since the 1970's. The threats to orcas have gotten so severe that scientists predict these beloved marine animals could be completely EXTINCT within the next few decades.

With the odds stacked against them, these helpless orcas are going to need all of the support that they can get. But unless the National Marine Fisheries Services (NMFS) holds the industrial fishing industry accountable for DECIMATING orcas' critical food source, the lives of these baby orcas could soon be cut short before they've even fully begun. Please,  Friend, we can't let the two orca calves starve to death. Add your name to tell NMFS to STOP corporate overfishing and bycatch and protect endangered orcas >>

Thanks for your urgent action to protect endangered orcas!
