Fair Access to Missouri Unemployment Benefits

Dear friends of the Missouri Commission on Human Rights (MCHR): Happy 2024! For many, a new year offers a new beginning – a time for resolutions, new goals, and new opportunities. For others, a new year can be a time of uncertainty – not knowing how they will make ends meet or provide for their families.  As we begin 2024, MCHR resolves to continue our work of ensuring equal opportunity in Missouri's places of employment, housing, and public accommodations through education, outreach, and enforcement of the Missouri Human Rights Act. We are also excited to continue our partnership with the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations' Division of Employment Security (DES) to improve outreach and education for Missouri's unemployment insurance program. Our goal is to share valuable information intended to improve understanding of the program and how to access unemployment benefits.   As communities came together earlier in January to honor the work and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we recognize equality and equity continue to evolve, and barriers to equal access still arise. There is no better time to share with you this third of four emails designed to increase awareness regarding Missouri's unemployment benefits program. What You Need and Steps to Filing for Unemployment in Missouri provides an overview of the required information and actions needed to access Missouri's online, user-friendly, self-service, unemployment system – UInteract, to begin the unemployment filing process.
