Access for All Free Fridays Kickoff
Friday, January 5 | 10 am - 9 pm | Free

Join us for a day full of exciting activities on the Access for All Free Fridays Kickoff! This Free Friday will include an open studio, demonstrations from the Weaver's Guild of St. Louis, live ice sculptures created by Full Spectrum Ice Sculptures, sewn portraits by Tucker Pierce, and the first SLAM Social featuring music by Syna So Pro.

Boldly Embracing a Legacy of Greatness
January 14 | 2-3:30 pm | Free

The annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration will highlight the richness of the Black experience in America. The event will feature an original theatrical work created and performed by Kathryn Bentley, Geovonday Jones, and Jacqueline Thompson inspired by photographs by Moneta Sleet Jr. in the Museum's collection. The program will also include speaker Rebeccah Bennett, founder and principal of Emerging Wisdom.

SLAM Cinema: The Last Laugh
Friday, January 26 | 5:30-7:30 pm | Free

The 1924 silent film will be presented with live musical accompaniment. The film stars Emil Jannings as a nameless hotel doorman who faces ridicule from his friends and family after losing his job. Melissa Venator, SLAM's Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Assistant Curator of Modern Art, will make brief remarks about the film at 5:30 pm.

SLAM Cinema: Do the Right Thing

Exploring racial tension on the hottest day of the year, director Spike Lee's 1989 comedy-drama Do the Right Thing frequently appears on critics' lists of the best films ever made. In addition to Aiello and Lee, the film also stars Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, Richard Edson, Giancarlo Esposito, Bill Nunn, John Turturro, and Samuel L. Jackson.
