The appeal aims to reach nearly 90 million people, to protect their health in 41 emergencies around the globe in 2024, including 15 ‘Grade 3’ emergencies – emergencies that demand the highest level of response from WHO.  Tuesday, 16 JanuaryWHO global report on trends in prevalence of tobacco use 2000-2030 and announcement of World No Tobacco Day themeThis report highlights global, regional, and country trends in tobacco use around the world between different ages, sexes and country income level. The report projects trends up to 2030. Progress in reducing tobacco use is a key indicator for measuring countries’ efforts to implement the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control – target 3.a under the Sustainable Development Goals agenda. These recent findings have informed WHO's next World No Tobacco Day theme.  Thursday, 18 JanuaryNew artificial intelligence guidance releasedWHO is releasing new guidance on the ethics and governance of large multi-modal models (LMMs) – a type of fast growing generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology with applications across health care.
