Dear Friend,
| Protect people and pollinators -- Join Friends of the Earth today! |
The crisis facing the world's bees gets worse every day. In fact, over 700 North American bee species are now at risk and 40 percent of all wild insect pollinators are facing extinction.
You may have heard that diseases, pests and climate change have all been implicated in the global bee die-off. But the truth is that a growing body of science points to another key driver: the world's most widely used insecticides -- neonicotinoids, or neonics.
You and I can save them…if we act NOW!
Join Friends of the Earth to help save our precious pollinators and our planet!
Friends of the Earth's activists -- with help from concerned people like you -- have been racking up huge wins in the fight for our planet for more than 45 years. And with your help, we can win this crucial battle for bees.
I know Friends of the Earth can win the battle against neonics -- and the battle for a cleaner, greener planet for us all. We've got a bold vision for success -- one of innovation… progressive change…and mindful reflection on the true costs of corporate greed to us, other species, and our planet. And we aren't afraid to speak truth to power.
Already, we have racked up an impressive number of victories against steep odds, including these recent wins:
- To date, we've convinced 13 of the top 25 grocery retailers to create pollinator protection policies, including Walmart, Costco, Aldi, and Giant Eagle. In a huge win after years of advocacy by our campaigners and Members, Kroger became the latest major U.S. grocer to announce commitments aimed at reducing the use of toxic pesticides.
- In New York, we successfully aided in the passage of the Birds and Bees Protection Act -- the strongest bill in the nation aimed at protecting people and pollinators from toxic neonic pesticides. Governor Hochul signed this bill into law in early 2024.
- Friends of the Earth has made stunning progress towards shifting away from another bee-killing pesticide. Thanks to the efforts of Friends of the Earth and our coalition, Connecticut's governor signed a bill banning this brain-damaging pesticide on golf courses and in other turf, lawn and ornamental settings, closing a loophole that still allows its use in communities. We will continue to work to get this and other people- and pollinator-harming pesticides out of our food system and communities.
These were hard-fought, groundbreaking achievements against powerful foes. They required Friends of the Earth's special brand of uncompromising tenacity and attention to detail. And none of our victories would have been possible without generous people like you supporting us each step of the way.
Bees are counting on us for help…will you act today?
Make a donation to Friends of the Earth to join thousands of like-minded citizens worldwide who are helping us wage a no-holds-barred fight for the bees' future and the future of our planet.
And we're not only working on behalf of bees and other precious pollinators.
Frontline activists, communities, and Friends of the Earth Members scored a huge victory against the Fossil Fuel Industry when the Atlantic Coast Pipeline was abandoned for good. The proposed 600-mile pipeline would have transported fracked natural gas from West Virginia through Virginia into North Carolina, disproportionately harming low-income, Black and Indigenous communities along the route.
And we successfully pushed the EPA to regulate aircraft lead pollution, the largest source of airborne lead emissions in the country. This years-long battle will ensure healthier air for more than five million people – including more than 360,000 children under five.
In short, Friends of the Earth is the kind of organization that gets things done for pollinators, people and the planet. We just need YOUR help.
Please make your Membership contribution today. Clearly, the bees can't wait…and neither can we.
For the bees,
Erich Pica,
President,
Friends of the Earth
