The spotlight was on the Federal Reserve’s minutes from the latest monetary policy meeting. Among Fed officials, there’s a mix of sentiments regarding interest rates. While there's optimism about policy moves curbing inflation, caution prevails about moving too quickly. The minutes revealed that policymakers aren't rushing to cut interest rates.  They decided to keep the key overnight borrowing rate unchanged in the last policy meeting. Plus, they tweaked the post-meeting statement to signal no rate cuts until the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) has "greater confidence" in inflation receding. Note that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) based inflation jumped by 0.3% in January, hitting a 3.1% increase over the year.  This comes at a time when the Federal Reserve is figuring out its 2024 monetary policy.  We will be getting a deeper dive into this at the upcoming March policy meeting. U.S. Producer Prices: In January, U.S. producer prices shot up more than expected, primarily fueled by rising service costs. The Producer Price Index (PPI) for final demand recorded a 0.3% increase, marking the largest jump since August 2023.  2. Nvidia's Stellar Performance: Nvidia Corp. (NVDA) shattered market expectations with its fiscal fourth-quarter results. The company saw a jump in revenue to $22.10 billion, driven by robust demand for AI-related products and services. PBoC’s Move: The People's Bank of China (PBoC) slashed China's five-year loan prime rate (LPR) by 25 basis points (bps) from 4.2% to 3.95%, signaling efforts to bolster credit and property markets.
