Hey Indiana, One of the things that makes jazz such a special and interesting style of music to listen to and play is the chords. Chords in jazz standards often are full and rich, leading to lots of colorful harmonic and melodic possibilities.  And regardless of whether you play piano, guitar, saxophone, bass...etc., you need to know jazz chords forwards and backwards. And what are those chords? 7th chords!  7th chords are four note chords (a triad - root, 3rd, 5th + 7th), and they are the default chord used in jazz.  But jazz musicians don't usually stop there. They often add chord extensions and alterations on top of those 7th chords. Now, if any of the lingo I've just used is confusing, or you're feeling overwhelmed by the possibilities, not to worry!
