A New Partnership Between The Paris Review and the Bard Prison Initiative

View this email in your browser It is with great enthusiasm that we announce a unique partnership between The Paris Review and Bard College: the Paris Review Visiting Professorship at the Bard Prison Initiative (BPI). This professorship establishes a position at BPI for a distinguished writer—selected from a shortlist put forward by the Review—to share prose and poetry that have inspired them, in an intimate seminar setting. The Paris Review Visiting Professor of Literature will teach three semester-long courses per year within BPI's network. For twenty-five years, BPI has provided full-time, tuition-free, and degree-granting liberal arts education in unconventional settings—first in Hudson Valley prisons and then through the Bard Microcollege in partnership with public libraries, social services, and advocacy organizations. These colleges, which mirror the breadth and depth of learning on Bard's main campus, reimagine and redefine questions of availability, affordability, and expectations typically associated with college in America. We are calling on readers and friends of the Review to nominate distinguished writers with an interest in the role for the 2024–25 academic year. We also encourage writers to nominate themselves.
