How to get jazz licks to come out in your solos ->

so they don't feel forced or unnatural... ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Hey Indiana,

Hope you're well!

I wonder if you're like many of my students and have this problem.

You learn a jazz lick like this:

And of course you do it because that's what every jazz teacher says to do - learn jazz language to get better at jazz improvisation.

Great! Box checked.

It can be thrilling when you learn a new jazz lick from one of your favorite musicians. You feel like you've somehow "downloaded" a part of their musical brain into yours.

But then you go to improvise...

And you really want that lick to "come out" as you're taking a solo...

But it doesn't.

Or perhaps it does, but it sounds forced, unnatural, and as if you are "copy-and-pasting" that lick into your solo.

So suddenly the thrill of learning that lick has died off, and you're left feeling frustrated that jazz improvisation isn't coming naturally to you.

I get it, and trust me you are not alone.

But what if you were able to learn jazz licks in such a way that they would actually come out in your solos?

And not in an unnatural, copy-and-paste, sort of way. But a natural, organic way where you are able to take licks you learn and transform them into something you created yourself.

That's why I recently published a podcast episode where I go into this concept and help reveal this process to you.

Go give this quick 10 minute episode a listen - it could be a gamechanger!
