The centrist's dream come true | I had to blink three times to make sure the tweet, the photo, then the video were real. They were. There was Barack Obama, the centrist's dream leader, at the door of 10 Downing Street. Because it was a private visit, there was no photo of Rishi Sunak with him on the threshold – although we can expect No 10's Flickr account to have interior shots of them soon. Obama may not cut much ice with swing voters. After all, they ignored him when he told them to vote to stay in the EU. But he cannot do Sunak any harm, and his presence could help inoculate the prime minister against the association of some in his party with Trumpism. This may matter if the British and American election campaigns are running in parallel in October. | |

The article introduces the new MA in Government Studies being offered by King's College London this year: Jack will be teaching a module on Tory rule 2010-2024, while I will be continuing my course on the New Labour years
