| Dear Friend, He is Risen! Ray and I hope you and your loved ones had a Happy Easter. Last week, the U.S. allowed the United Nations to pass a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. It is absolutely unconscionable the Biden Administration is abandoning our strongest ally in the Middle East like this, especially when so many hostages are still held by Hamas. A ceasefire would only help Hamas and does not bring us one second closer to an end to this war. Israel must have our support and, as Vice Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I will continue working to ensure they have what they need to root out the evil that is Hamas and ensure the release of all remaining hostages. Read more on this resolution here. The House Foreign Affairs Committee held a hearing on countering China’s dangerous attempts to steal our military technologies. Our current export control system is deeply flawed. As a result, controlled U.S. technologies are turning up in enemy programs—such as the spy balloon China sent over Missouri and the continental U.S. last year to collect data on our most sensitive military installations. It is imperative that our export control system is efficient, targeted, and effective—now that China, Iran, and Russia have formed a new axis of evil to attack our national security interests and help each other circumvent U.S. export controls. I sponsored legislation, the Export Control Enforcement and Enhancement Act, to ensure these critical safeguards are more agile and airtight. Watch more here. I was thrilled to call Eureka senior Ryan Thornhill and tell him he received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy. Last week, the Foreign Affairs Committee approved legislation I am co-leading that condemns the killing of Alexei Navalny by Russia and calls for the release of political prisoners in the Russian Federation. The killing of Alexei Navalny was a desperate attempt by Vladimir Putin to expand his dictatorship and destabilize our world. I have met with Navalny’s widow, Yulia, and have seen how ready and capable she is to continue her husband’s work. Putin is a global threat who must be stopped. We must stand up to his complete and utter evil before he endangers even more innocents and marches on to our allies. The Gallagher family from Fenton met with me as part of the National Down Syndrome Society Advocacy Conference. We are all deeply inspired by their commitment and passion, and I look forward to working with them and supporting legislation to help empower individuals with Down Syndrome. I appreciated meeting with State Representative Brad Christ and his wife Erin before my office gave them a tour of the U.S. Capitol. Thank you to the Missouri Corn Growers for visiting with us in Washington. We had a great meeting where we discussed the importance of corn growers and farmers in Missouri working hard to keep our local families well-fed. The Corn Growers are also powering the future of next generation energy that can be produced right here in Missouri. In our quest to make our nation energy independent, it is great to see Missouri farmers doing their part to achieve that goal. Sincerely, Ann Wagner Member of Congress |
