Groundbreaking innovations for Earth Day

KOIO- Two years ago we embarked on an ambitious adventure: To develop luxury footwear that comes from regenerative sources and, after years of use, is fully biodegradable. Each year, we have introduced a groundbreaking innovations that got us to our vision. This year, we are taking another big step: Colors! We can now make our regenerative leather in any color and free of chrome and other metals. Welcome our new regenerative Capri colors: Riverbed, Storm, and Granite.

2022- MILESTONE 1. REGENERATIVE LEATHER. A footwear first: We introduced regenerative leather, sourced from carbon-neutral farms in Switzerland. Their freely grazing cows restore the soil and thereby allow us to save 43.75 Ibs of carbon per pair of shoes.

2023- MILESTONE 2. A BIODEGRADABLE SHOE. Another breakthrough: We launched the Mello, a sneaker that combines natural components and is 99% biodegradable. Regenerative leather, natural-rubber soles from FSC certified forests, organic cotton laces, and plant-based insole come together in a sneaker that vanishes into the ground instead of going to a landfill.

2024- MILESTONE 3. REGENERATIVE COLORS. Another big step towards a full regenerative footwear portfolio: We developed a tanning method that is environmentally friendly and can achieve any color. Usually, leathers are tanned with chrome in order to be able to then dye them in a wide range of colors. We found a chrome-and metal-free tanning method that gives us the same flexibility and we're celebrating this achievement with three new Capri colors: Riverbed, Storm and Granite.
