This month on the Growing Good Dads blog, we're discussing children from the ages of six to nine. Kids in this age range are busy enjoying their summer break. The last thing some of them would want to do is visit the library. What's so fun about the library, anyway? Stephanie Smallwood, Youth Services Coordinator with the Springfield-Greene County Library District, erases the misconceptions that libraries are boring by showcasing some of the activities and prizes provided through the Summer Reading Program. “Summer reading is a tool that is perfect for families at whatever level or whatever their goals are for their kid. We don’t really subscribe to how kids and teens complete the program; they can complete it in whatever way works for them as a reader and as a family of readers. And we get feedback that families use this in lots of different ways.”  Continue Reading PODCAST E529 Kids and Sports The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Coaching Using the A.B.C.s   Join us this week as Good Dads' very own Frank Tristan joins Dr. Baker and J Fotsch in the podcast studio! This week we continue our June theme on raising children between the ages of 6 and 9. Around this age, kids begin to ponder what some of their interests might be. Frank shares his personal philosophy in regards to coaching, using the acronym A.B.C., where A stands for Ask, B stands for Balance, and C stands for Competitive In addition, Frank also shared why he wanted to become a coach in the first place. "In high school and college, both of my coaches were influential. My dad was obviously so important, but those guys cemented who I wanted to be in life, and I was like ‘Man, I could do that, that would be awesome and rewarding.’" Listen Now IN THE COMMUNITY Thank you to Kendra Scott for partnering with Good Dads! DOWNTOWN SPRINGFIELD ASSOCIATION TOUR We'd like to thank members of the Downtown Springfield Association (DSA) for joining us Tuesday night for a tour of our soon-to-be Good Dads headquarters, the Ragan House! The DSA hosts regular mixers with members, and this week's event had Chinese food from Lucky Time and beverages at the Queen City Collectors. Good Dads participated by offering tours of the former parsonage, located in front of the Downtown Church.
