What to know: The landslide victory by Claudia Sheinbaum, a scientist and former Mexico City mayor, ensures another six years in power for the left-leaning Morena party.
How she did it: Sheinbaum's victory caps a decades-long campaign for gender parity in Mexico, where women didn't win the right to vote for president until 1953.
Another historic result: South Africa's ruling ANC party had its worst election since Nelson Mandela led it to victory in 1994.

The case: It centers on a claim President Biden's son made in 2018, on forms required to buy a gun, that he was not addicted to or using illegal drugs. Prosecutors say that was false.
Why it matters: This trial, and another on tax charges, could reopen painful moments in the Biden family's past while the president wants to highlight Donald Trump's legal problems.

What it would do: The three-part plan, announced Friday, would lead to a permanent cease-fire, the release of all hostages in Gaza and the withdrawal of all Israeli troops.
Will it happen? Similar cease-fire proposals have fallen apart in negotiations, but Israel and Hamas have reacted positively to this one. See more details about the plan here.

Why? The infectious-disease expert will be questioned by a House panel investigating the origins of the coronavirus pandemic and the U.S. response to it, which Fauci oversaw.
One expected question: Why the CDC recommended keeping six feet apart from others to avoid catching covid-19 — despite there being little science to support the rule.

How? State voucher programs allocate government money to cover education costs outside of public schools. The vast majority of it goes to religious schools, a Post analysis found.
Zooming out: The growth in voucher programs reflects how the Supreme Court, operating along largely ideological lines, has redefined religion's role in education and public life.

What happened? The 27-year-old won gold on all four apparatuses at this weekend's U.S. gymnastics championships, finishing nearly six points above the next gymnast.
She's ready for Paris: Biles is poised to rack up more gold at the Olympics this summer — after a bad case of the "twisties" set her back at the Tokyo Games three years ago.

Why? To collect rare samples from a region that no other country has landed on. The uncrewed Chang'e 6 probe is named for the goddess of the moon in Chinese mythology.
The race is on: The U.S. and China are each working toward creating settlements on the moon. The U.S. hopes to send humans back to the lunar surface as soon as 2026.
