Dear readers, Welcome to this scaled-back version of the Race Report newsletter. It's been a while since we chatted. How are things? The 4 July general election is almost upon us! Anyway, I come bearing good news: we've been quietly working on a grand relaunch of the Race Report newsletter. In an operation referred to internally as 'RR 2.0', subscribers will henceforth receive weekly news updates on every Wednesday morning, instead of fortnightly on a Tuesday. If that's cool with you then expect to receive your next newsletter on the morning of Wednesday July 10. While you wait, have you heard that one in seven young Black and Asian Britons are making concrete plans to leave the UK due to government failings, racism and economic worries? Also, take the time to meet Ms Thelma Campbell, the 89-year-old Windrush pensioner facing homelessness at 89 as Home Office is "unable to verify her identity". She told me about her plight in the wake of Britain's Windrush Day celebrations. Can you imagine? Campaigners told me that they're calling for the Electoral Commission to be given powers to investigate discriminatory language used in campaigns after multiple Reform UK candidates were engulfed in racism rows. Meanwhile, the Labour Party attempted to gag a prominent Black barrister who authored a report that exposed a "hierarchy of racism" within the party, The Independent revealed.
