A Message From Ann

A message from Congresswoman Ann Wagner

Dear Friend,

My team and I are absolutely devastated that Jaci Winship, our Senior Community Liaison, passed away this week.  Over the past decade, Jaci has faithfully served the people of Missouri's 2nd District with compassion and dedication.  She has been a core part of the team from the very beginning, and her passion for her work shined through in all she did.  Jaci’s commitment to helping the most vulnerable truly made our community better each and every day.  She was a leader in our fight against human trafficking and in helping victims of domestic violence.  Local advocates and community leaders knew they could count on her when they needed help at all hours of the day.

She had an innate desire to help others and foster a stronger, more creative, and more hardworking next generation of students.  She worked with high school students and art teachers as the head of our Congressional Art Competition, she championed emerging leaders in the tech space during the Congressional App Challenge, and she was a tireless advocate for students serving our nation in United States Service Academies.  The future is bright in Missouri thanks to Jaci’s work pushing students to work even harder and break out of their comfort zones.  You can read more about Jaci’s incredible life here.

Jaci will always be in our hearts.  As we begin this week’s work in Washington, D.C., we hope to live up to her passion and her desire to faithfully serve our community.

Missouri veterans have served our nation with honor, and they deserve world-class treatment from the Department of Veterans Affairs.  The VA has held up the John Cochran construction project for too long, a shameful failure that has blocked our veterans from vital modernized medical facilities.  I am calling on the VA to take immediate action, request funds for this project, and treat our veterans with the respect they have earned.  Read my letter with Chairman of the Veterans Affairs Committee Mike Bost here.

Last week, during the House’s China week, we passed numerous Foreign Affairs Committee bills to position the United States to better compete with China and win. I am happy to say the House unanimously passed my legislation, the Export Control Enforcement and Enhancement Act, to ensure State, Defense, Energy, and other national security agencies can play a stronger role in curating the Entity List, while also setting a 30-day clock to make sure proposals to change the Entity List do not languish in red tape.  During our Foreign Affairs Committee hearing last week, I asked our witness how Chinese companies exploit loopholes in our export control system and what the Administration is doing to stop this behavior.   Watch here.

Our Gaza Working Group held another joint meeting to examine ways in which we can help our regional partners chart a responsible path forward in Gaza.  We agree they need to take the lead in reconstruction post-war and we will do what we can to support a stable, deradicalized Gaza as part of our shared goal of a more peaceful Middle East.

The House passed my bill, the Corporate Governance Examination Act, as part of a larger effort fight back against the Biden-Harris Administration’s radically progressive regulators who are letting left-wing activists force their out-of-touch view over our financial system.  My legislation would require the SEC to conduct comprehensive studies on shareholder proposals, proxy advisory firms, and the proxy process.  These studies will address key problems in politically and socially motivated proposals, such as financial incentives and obligations of involved parties, the impact on long term retail investors, the influence of proxy advisory firms, and the costs incurred by companies in response to these proposals.  Watch my speech in support of this legislation here.

This weekend’s ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge was incredibly moving. As we approach the 80th anniversary later this year, veterans and families came together to lay a wreath at a monument dedicated to their sacrifices here in Jefferson Barracks. Truly an honor to meet American heroes who served our nation in this historic battle.

I am proud to say I received the Guardian of Small Business Award from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB).  Small businesses power our communities, support local jobs, and enrich our Main Streets.  I will continue fighting for small businesses in Congress and ensuring they are not strangled by overzealous regulations.

Sincerely,
