The Bost Bulletin

Dear Friend,

Last week, Congress wrapped up its legislative work for September. As we head home for the October district work period, I look forward to meeting with constituents across Southern Illinois to hear about the opportunities and challenges ahead and how we can keep fighting to get this country back on track. I’ve previously mentioned that Congress had two key priorities to accomplish before the calendar turned to October: funding the government and securing the election. Well, frustratingly enough, it was a mixed bag…

Voting NO on the Continuing Resolution

Last time I updated you on my work, I let you know I had voted for a bill to fund the government through spring of next year AND secure the election by requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote. Sadly, House Democrats stood in near unanimous opposition to defeat that legislation. In response, congressional leaders brought a short-term compromise spending bill to the floor last week with none of the election protections included. I voted NO.

It’s beyond me how anyone could oppose ensuring the integrity of what may be the closest presidential race in modern history. I couldn’t justify voting for a bill that’s half as good, and funds the government for half as long, as the one we brought to the floor earlier this month. Southern Illinoisans deserve to have confidence that our elections are secure and that their vote won’t be canceled out by someone casting a ballot illegally.

Holding the Biden-Harris Administration Accountable on Afghanistan

I was back in the Speaker’s Chair last week, presiding over floor debate on a resolution holding the Biden-Harris administration accountable for its disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal. I’m happy to share that this resolution passed. We must never forget the horrible and preventable events at Abbey Gate, nor the 13 brave U.S. servicemembers who lost their lives.

Pushing for Pro-Growth Policies

I sat down with the Illinois Manufacturers' Association to discuss issues impacting economic growth, like supply chain efficiency, inflation, and workforce development. Together, with our focus on pro-small business policies, we’ll keep working to make sure our working families and job creators prosper across Southern Illinois.

Speaking with Mascoutah School District Officials

I met with officials from Mascoutah School District 19 last week to discuss impact aid policies, special education funding, after school programs, and preparatory programs. It was wonderful to see Superintendent David Deets, Board President Matt Stukenber, Director of Business Operations Brandon Taylor, and the principal of Scott Elementary School, Kellen Kettwich.

Meeting with the American Network for Community Options and Resources

I welcomed Clint Paul from Herrin, the President and CEO of the American Network of Community Options and Resources as well as other members to my office for a meeting. We discussed community-based solutions that support those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. What an important mission for the people of Southern Illinois.
