THE 101: Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Ian Roberts was arrested last week by immigration officers.

WHAT TO KNOW: Roberts was detained last Friday. He was taken to the Woodbury County Jail, according to county records.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) says Roberts had a deportation order from May 2024. School staff and the school board say they did not get any notification about the order, and Roberts had previously presented a driver's license and Social Security card as part of an I-9 work verification form.

U.S. Rep. Zach Nunn, who formally requested all documents related to Roberts' immigration status in a letter over the weekend, sat down for an exclusive interview with KCCI to discuss the law enforcement efforts and the next steps for DMPS.

WEEKLY WEATHER OUTLOOK

Highs will stay in the 80s and lows mainly in the low 60s with rural areas in the 50s. We can expect more clouds through the day which will lead to temps peaking a few degrees lower than yesterday, but we are still more than 10 degrees above average.

Once the clouds clear for Thursday, highs will climb into the upper 80s and near 90. There is a chance for some rain for the end of the weekend and into the new work week which will bring a cooldown. This is caused by a cold front that will finally bring some Fall weather back over the state. Temperatures will drop bringing highs back into the 70s and lows deeper into the 50s.
