Think of it as the "middle layer" of aviation that most people forget exists. Commercial airlines dominate routes over 500 miles. Urban air mobility startups are targeting trips under 50 miles. Surf Air Mobility operates in the 50-500 mile sweet spot; point-to-point regional travel using existing airport infrastructure.
The company isn't just running planes, though. They're building two complementary business units:
Air Mobility: The actual air travel operations — a scheduled airline connecting smaller communities across the country and Hawaii, and a global on-demand charter flight service. Air Technology: AI-enabled software (SurfOS) and electrified aircraft enablement designed to transform how regional air mobility operates and eventually goes electric.
The Market Opportunity Is Bigger Than You Think
Regional Air Mobility isn't some niche corner of aviation. According to McKinsey, the global market could reach $75 billion to $115 billion by 2035. The U.S. portion alone is projected at $15 billion to $22 billion.
NASA has weighed in too, suggesting that Regional Air Mobility could fundamentally change how Americans travel by bringing convenient air service to communities far from major hubs.

Here's where it gets interesting. Palantir Technologies, the data analytics giant known for working with government agencies and Fortune 500 companies is a large institutional shareholder of Surf Air Mobility.
But it's not just a passive investment. The two companies have entered into a five-year exclusive partnership:
Surf Air Mobility is building SurfOS, an all-in-one software platform designed to be the "operating system" for the entire Air Mobility industry. The platform is powered by Palantir's Foundry and AI capabilities, designed to enable better data organization and faster decision-making across flight operations. Under the deal, Surf Air has exclusivity for configuring and selling this software to Part 135 operators, the regulatory category covering regional and charter aviation. SurfOS isn't just for internal use. The company plans to sell it to third-party operators, charter brokers, aircraft owners, and aviation manufacturers.
This transforms Surf Air Mobility from a pure airline play into a potential AI-powered software platform company.
The Numbers Today (data is LTM ending September 30, 2025)
Surf Air Mobility is already generating real revenue, not just pitching a concept:

The company also benefits from a unique revenue source: Essential Air Service (EAS) contracts. This federal program, created by Congress in 1978, subsidizes air service to small communities that would otherwise lose connectivity. Surf Air currently serves 13 EAS communities, generating approximately $48 million in recurring government revenue — roughly 45% of total revenue with an average contract length of 3.7 years.

The Hawaii Advantage
One of Surf Air Mobility's crown jewels is Mokulele Airlines, the largest interisland commuter airline in Hawaii. The network covers 9 airports and 10 routes across O'ahu, Maui, Moloka'i, Lāna'i, and Hawai'i Island.
