🔴 Live Updates: The Barkley Marathons Begins Again in Frozen Head​ At exactly 6 a.m. Eastern on Saturday, the 2026 Barkley Marathons began in Frozen Head State Park in Tennessee. As tradition dictates, race director Lazarus Lake marked the start by lighting a cigarette, sending runners into the mountains to tackle roughly 100 miles of off-trail terrain with a 60-hour time limit. Widely considered one of the most difficult endurance events in the world, the Barkley has seen only a small number of finishers since it began in 1986. In 2024, Jasmin Paris became the first woman to complete the race. Last year, no one finished.
