The price of war: the Hormuz toll |
Iran has in effect imposed a toll on shipping passing through the Strait of Hormuz, suggesting that the American-Israeli assault has been counterproductive. At least two vessels have paid a direct toll, with payments settled in Chinese yuan, Lloyd's List reported, with others having gone through the strait after negotiations with the Iranian regime. The conflict in Iran has also played into Vladimir Putin's hands, as Russian forces this week launch their most brutal offensive since the war began, according to the Institute for the Study of War. No wonder Donald Trump strikes an increasingly desperate tone as he tries to find a way out of the strategic disaster into which he has blundered. |
