Good Morning! Today’s the big day. My father, along with Cole and the students from Madison Automotive Apprentices, will be showing his freshly restored 1968 911S Targa at the Porsche Parade Concours in Lake Placid. It’s been a long journey, but 100% worth it as the car looks incredible. That said, it’s been a whirlwind of a week, and I’m a bit behind on emails. If you’re waiting on a reply, I’ll be catching up over the next day or two. |

The Porsche Sportomatic, introduced in the late 1960s, was an early attempt to blend manual control with automatic convenience. Debuting as the Type 905 Sportomatic, it used a torque converter to prevent stalling and a vacuum-operated clutch triggered by a microswitch in the shifter, allowing drivers to change gears without a clutch pedal. Aimed at improving comfort in traffic, it offered smoother, quicker shifts, though it was met with mixed reactions from enthusiasts. Fitted to roughly 10% of 911s before being discontinued in 1980, it remains a unique and somewhat misunderstood chapter in Porsche’s transmission history. |
This 1974 911 Targa Project is one such Sportomatic example. Originally finished from the factory in Grand Prix White, it was repainted in Guards Red under prior ownership with a Black interior currently removed from the car. The 2.7-liter engine has been fitted with dual Weber carburetors in place of the factory fuel injection system and was last running in September of 2025. |
Over the last twelve months early G-Body Targas have averaged $60,800 with a high of $80,000 and a low of $35,250 for another project sold back in November of last year. That project looked a little more complete than our Spotlight car, which sold at a final bid of $18,750. Even at that price, with complete, running examples selling in the $60-80,000 range, this project might just be a labor of love. |

The last time we saw this 1998 911 Carrera S Coupe 6-Speed was back in November of 2024 when it sold at a final bid of $180,993. Finished in Black over a Boxster Red leather interior, this ex-Rudy Mancinas “Mr. 993” car was lightly modified with a Turbo S–style fog light kit, a PCCM head unit, and a Fister sport exhaust system and had plenty of recent work including replacing the starter, installing an Immo Block immobilizer defeat system, and performing an oil change. It landed right in the middle of estimates with a final bid of $206,021, but it looks like the seller wanted more.
I had to include this Paint-to-Sample Ipanema Blue 2024 911 GT3 RS as I was drooling over a 997 Turbo sporting the same color here in Lake Placid yesterday. Showing 2,300 miles on the clock, it was very well optioned with PCCB brakes along with plenty of extra leather, carbon-fiber, and Yellow accents in the interior. It last sold back in May of 2025 at a final bid of $415,666, and sold this time around at a final bid of $470k. A decent jump over its previous sale but right in line with expectations.
While this Carmine Red over Black 2025 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 6-Speed may have had just 902 miles on the odometer, it wasn’t the lowest mileage example we’ve seen over the last twelve months, with 5 other cars showing fewer miles. But 4.0 prices have been up almost $7,000 over the last three months with two new highs in that period. We can now make that three, as this 4.0 set the latest high at a final bid of $114,000.

I’m loving the Aqua Blue Metallic over Brown Natural Leather color combo on this 2009 911 Turbo Coupe 6-Speed. Showing 39,000 miles, it looks to be in very nice condition with a clean and clear CarFax history and plenty of service since new along with paint meter readings and recent DME report in the gallery. With an excellent color combo and history, expect this one to land on the high side of the $112,300 to $154,800 estimate.
Although over 13,000 924 Turbos were produced, we rarely see them come up for sale with just two examples crossing the block over the last twelve months and only one of them selling. This 1981 924 Turbo 5-Speed comes finished in Meteor Metallic with Porsche script on the sides over a Black leatherette interior and shows 88,000 miles on the clock. It looks to be in fairly nice condition with hundreds of photos in the gallery, but even though there appears to be a binder of info, there isn’t much in the way of service history. The only other example to sell hammered at a final bid of $13,000. We’ll see what this one brings when it closes in six days.
Bumperettes! I know I’m in the minority here, but I love seeing those odd little things on the front of early 996 Turbos like this 2001 example. Finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over Black, this Turbo shows just 24,000 miles and features an aftermarket sound system with a humongous amplifier mounted in the frunk. With pictures and service history being a bit light here, it’s going to take a couple of bumperette lovers to get this one over the $100k mark even with such low miles.
