Wilbury Wednesdays: Episode 6 - Wilbury Fever Hello — Ok, last week they made the album. This week we explore the larger Wilbury World a bit. Jeff Lynne was basically the busiest fella on earth in the late ’80s, and during those magical years he made a remarkable amount of durable, timeless rock ’n’ roll—with every snare drum’s reverb tastefully gated. Today we listen to a whole lot of it: Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Randy Newman, Brian Wilson, and Del Shannon. Next episode will be the final episode of this series, but making it has definitely inspired me to find another juicy topic for a future Wednesday series. It just has to start with a W. Wire? Wynonna? Wilco? Waylon? Wynette? I’ll figure it out. I’m going to be at Lollapalooza next week (yes, it’s true) so look out for a Lolla report next Friday.
