NEC green monitor; MIO Knight Rider GPS

Gearlog - A Gadget Guide by Geeks, for Geeks
June 25, 2008
IN THIS ISSUE
Seems like just about every electronics manufacturer these days is jumping on the green bandwagon. On our eco-tech blog, GoodCleanTech, we write about a lot of gadgets that claim to be energy-wise, including the NEC MultiSync EA191M monitor, which tells you how much energy it's using. Some of these claims may stretch things a wee bit far; but we prefer this hyper-buzzy ecological awareness to the unfortunate lack of caring that was more standard a couple of years ago. Hopefully a happy medium will arrive one day soon.

NEC Monitor Measures Its Own Carbon Footprint
Every time the monitor is switched on, you're given the option of switching to eco mode, lowering brightness to 60 percent. And in the on-screen menu, a carbon footprint meter displays your activities, informing you of the monitor's smaller footprint upon using the eco mode feature.

Ricoh GX200 Beautiful Specs From A Strange Looking Camera
The Ricoh Caplio GX200 is one of the strangest looking compact digital cameras I've seen in a long time. Never judge a book by its cover, right? I'll try and resist. No - hold on. Before I really resist, it looks stretched from side-to-side with a periscope for its optional viewfinder. OK, it's out of my system now.

Hands On: Built Laptop Sleeves and Bags
Built, a company with an all-encompassing love of neoprene and a penchant for color contrasts, sent us a pair of its products, the Cargo Laptop Sleeve and Laptop Porter, and I must say I'm impressed with the design and comfort of both, if not the price.

Mio Knight Rider GPS
Mio just leaped to the top of the gotta-have-it GPS pack with its Knight Rider-themed portable navigation unit.
