
2008 Best Corporate Counsel Awards The Houston Business Journal is seeking nominations for its Best Corporate Counsel Awards program, honoring outstanding corporate general counsel in the greater Houston area. Presenting Sponsors: Porter & Hedges LLP Prescott Legal Search Association of Corporate Counsel INSTRUCTIONS -- Nominees must be HOUSTON-BASED attorneys who actively practice inside a corporation or other private sector organization, and do not hold themselves out to the public for the practice of law. -- The greater Houston area includes Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, San Jacinto, Austin, and Waller counties. -- Nominators MUST be able to give SPECIFIC and DETAILED examples of the nominee's capabilities in their position. Be able to give answers to questions such as challenging situations; management of business deals such as a merger, IPO, or bankruptcy; diversity; and pro bono work. -- Honorees will be chosen by a panel of distinguished judges. -- Submissions will be used by the judges in determining finalists and, ultimately, winners in each category. They will also be used by the Houston Business Journal in write-ups on the winners and finalists. RULES -- Nominees can only be submitted in ONE category; However, it will be at the discretion of the judges to consider the nominee in other categories. -- Questions should be answered with respect to the period from August 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008. -- ALL fields must be completed in order for the nominee to be considered for an award. -- Those selected as honorees will be requested to submit a photograph and further information. CATEGORIES - Outstanding solo corporate counsel.
- Outstanding corporate counsel with an attorney staff of two to 10.
- Outstanding corporate counsel with an attorney staff of 11 to 30.
- Outstanding corporate counsel with an attorney staff of 30 or more.
- Outstanding associate or assistant corporate counsel.
- Best team effort by a corporate legal department on a project during the period of August 1, 2007, to June 30, 2008.
- Best handling of a specific complex, difficult, or challenging issue during the period of August 1, 2007, and June 30, 2008.
- Up-and-comer: A corporate counsel who is already showing potential since starting his or her first corporate position less than five years ago.
- Champion of diversity: The corporate counsel who has best promoted diversity within his or her company.
- Good Samaritan: The corporate counsel who makes a contribution, not only to their company, but also to the community. (Includes pro bono work).
