You've always considered yourself both stylish and
resourceful when it comes to the furniture in your pad, but
that milk crate/coffee table can only hold, like, five
Family Circus compilations. Get more room and actual style
with Ali Sandifer.
Made by a Michigan-turned-Chi husband and wife team who
started out doing custom work and just recently discovered
the Internet, AS handcrafts fetching furniture out of
sustainable domestic woods (walnut, ash, white oak) that
pays equal mind to form (sleek, clean modern lines, and
contours) and function, keeping your mags out of harm's way
so that Redbook doesn't refer to everything your Kool-Aid
landed on. Organizing and beautifying your living room is
the Zaide, a coffee table with exposed internal storage and
a three-legged wishbone base; the Mag, another coffee table
with smooth rounded edges that's bisected with sunken
magazine storage; and the Tele, an endtable that can be
paired with the Mag and operates on two levels, just one
less than Carrot Top. Non-tabley but equally useful action
comes from the aptly named Desk, which can be customized for
righties or lefties and has well-integrated compartments for
bags, books, and paperwork; the Sheila, a low-slung
entertainment center-type piece with three drawers and an
adjustable shelf, and the Edith, an imposing credenza
flanked by two massive cabinets, features that have long
caused Sheila to secretly loathe Edith.
Because you'll need some place to sit after putting all your
crap away, they also have the George, a flannel
suede-covered plush club chair with a contoured back
cushion, so you can enjoy the zany adventures of Billy,
Dolly, Mom, and Dad, as God intended: without other people
knowing.
