Some Days It Looks Like I’m Not Working Posted: 03 Jan 2010 06:48 PM PST But I am. When I’m carrying on a few conversations in Twitter, I’m also working through business deliverables. When I’m posting links to things, that’s also work. When I’m commenting on blog posts, yep, that’s work, too. No, I don’t have time to chat, even though my tweets seem conversational. No, I’m not able to take a quick phone call. I’m multithreading. I know it looks like I’m just tweeting to tweet, or adding comments or facebooking or any of the other things we do in social media, but I’m also doing my job. Tweeting is part of my job. I’ll always connect when I’ve a moment. You’re just as important as ever. Please just understand that work looks a lot different from my desk than yours some days. |
You Should Attend Social Media Jungle in Las Vegas Posted: 03 Jan 2010 05:15 PM PST I just realized that I am not going to be flying into Las Vegas in time to honor my speaking gig at Social Media Jungle, put on by Jeff Pulver. It’s a really great event. I spoke there last year and this year will be even better. But I am not getting in until about seven hours after I was supposed to go onstage. For some reason, I thought everything was on the 7th, but then, I have calendar problems without lots of help from Diane (and I hadn’t run this event through her, so I blew it, yet again). Please, if you’re coming to Las Vegas for CES, make SURE you check out Social Media Jungle with Jeff Pulver and friends. It’s going to be a great event. Photo credit Doug Haslam |
Posted: 03 Jan 2010 08:31 AM PST I left the following comment on a blog post: You know that horrible thing where we say “there are two kinds of people?” Well, here’s one of those: There are two kinds of people: those who see the computer/internet/buttons as being attached to human, feeling beings, and those who think it’s just online and that it doesn’t attach. That’s like saying the phone is just something to talk into and there’s no emotions there, either. It’s not just online. People do have feelings that they associate to these “at a distance” places. Yes, people overreact. We agree there. But to dismiss emotions simply because of the medium would be to dismiss letters, telephones, pictures, etc. Lots of things happen at a distance and yet convey consequences. I think there are most definitely two sets of minds at work, and that by realizing the above, it describes/defines a lot of those times when one side or the other feels misunderstood. Just remembering this one detail, and realizing which of the two people you’re dealing with, and things might get better. |
Winners of the Holiday Photo Project Posted: 03 Jan 2010 05:28 AM PST I mentioned during the Holiday Photo/Video Project that there might be a prize for four folks, selected by me. Here are the four entries I selected. (Please email me via my contact form with your mailing address, and I’ll send you your prize. Dog hiding in wrapping paper, by Chris Hershberger: Playing with toys at the table by Janna Mock-Lopez: Aunt Amy gives a tarantula as a white elephant gift: And Santa visits the troops in Afghanistan, by Judy Reid: Honorable mentions (no prize, but tons of fun): Surprise, by Todd Earwood: “Don’t tell Santa:” “Dog Interrupts Holiday Kiss:” “No More Pez for Christmas:” And “Bad weather on the flight home” (favorite for obvious reasons): Bad weather on the flight home. Now, there’s no real brilliance in my voting. I just picked photos that fit my description of what “really” goes on at Christmas. There are many more pictures in the comments. Congrats to everyone for just being part of it. I’m so happy you’re sharing media with the world. Will you continue your projects in 2010? |
