Arlington Improv/ Fat Fish Blue
Comedy with real bite

Comedy clubs are typically just that: nothing but comedy,
or, if it's that Larry The Cable Guy guy, nothing but
not-comedy. Offering a more complete night out, the
Arlington Improv & Fat Fish Blue.
Grand opening this weekend, the new Improv brings everything
you expect of the franchise, but also houses an open-daily
Cajun bistro boasting a flat screen-happy full bar and, on
weekends, dueling piano players; the New Orleans theme's
fleshed out with a merrily imposing Louis Armstrong mural
and free Mardi Gras beads, so a girl can let out her inner
Satch-ho. The menu's by an ex-Palomino/Buca di Beppo chef,
and offers both bar standbys (tenders, burgers, wings...)
and Louisianan magic like fried green tomatoes (w/ collard
greens/mobile relish/Cajun mayo), Mumbo Jambalaya,
chicken/shrimp Fat Fish Fettuccine, and a Cajun-buttered
12oz strip called Bayou Beef -- also the name of an alarming
magazine airboat operators claim to only read for the
articles. The bar pours six drafts
(Shiner/Guinness/Newcastle...), plus
margs/hurricanes/daiquiris, while the 4-7pm Mon-Fri happy
hour features half off all those, the same off apps, and a
fat $5 burger/fries special your body will hopefully convert
into a $5 foot-long.
Back to the comedy club: it's a warm, multi-tiered space
with multimedia gear for biz parties, and is soundproofed so
touring comedians don't wash out the pianists -- or, if
Larry's onstage...ah, who cares, shouldn't you be somewhere
else?
