Dee's Place
Bringing you the blues, curing them with soul food

Elton John guessed that's what they call it the blues 'cause
he had to guess -- but what does a rich British dude really
know about the blues when he gets to wear whatever
sunglasses he wants? Giving you the real deal blues and a
whole lot else, Dee's Place.
From a guy with deep ties to the Chi blues scene, DP's
slinging soul food and live music in a cozy space that's
decked with vintage blues posters and black-and-white photos
on loan from the Chicago Blues Museum showing the younger
days of greats like Cab Calloway and Sam Cooke, who you can
observe while wondering when your change is gonna come. The
comfort food-laden menu starts with the meat, with just
about every kind of chicken imaginable (fried, smothered,
BBQ, baked, jerk), beef short ribs, rib tips, and a whole
catfish, but not a whole Catfish Hunter, because that'd just
be a slider. From there it's time to load up on sides like
mac and cheese, greens, candied yams, and corn on the cob,
followed by assorted rotating desserts like banana pudding
and peach cobbler, which is always a shoe-in.
Entertainment-wise they're going well beyond blues with jazz
nights, Motown Mondays, karaoke, and even poetry, which
Elton John knows all about, but then again, no.
They're doing private events right now with plans to open
full force in a couple of weeks. To get yourself into one,
email ThrillistDees@gmail.com for the details.
