From Kyle Phillips, your Guide to Italian Food
A reader recently wrote to ask what Wordless Wednesday blog posts are all about. To be honest, I don't know where or when they started, but they began with a blogger who simply put up a picture with no text on Wednesdays. The idea caught on, and now there are WW posts all over the web. And the Almost Wordless Wednesdays I do? Simple; I think a photo with an explanation or commentary is often better than a picture by itself. So I comment, trying not to run on too long.

Some of the AWW posts I have liked best.
The title link leads to the most recent, an antipasto misto shot I took in the Puglia zone of the last Salone del Gusto. And here are some more:

Tempo di Fragole
Strawberries have begun to appear in italian markets, and while they're not yet local -- what I have seen is from Spain -- they soon will be. And will be wonderful! Some ideas for them:

Thinking about Scampi...
Scampi are crustaceans, and Italy is blessed with many varieties. The link leads to a page with a picture of scampi, which somewhat resemble lobsters thanks to their claws. And here are a few recipes I used to enjoy, before I became alergic to shrimp. Now I don't dare touch them, because going into shock is no fun at all. Been there, done that, and don't want to do it again.

Arista!
Arista is the Tuscan word for pork loin, and it is also pork loin roasted with herbs, a dish that goes way back; Artusi says it much impressed Greek Orthodox negotiatiors at a Council held in Florence in 1430. The title link leads to Artusi's recipe, and here are a few more: Since we are in the midst of Easter Week, rather than a menu (under featured articles) some simple recipe suggestions featuring a spring classic: peas.

But before we get to them, a digression. If you are planning to be in Alba (Piemonte) this month, don't miss Vinum, which is billed as a wine and food fair, but is actually much more, and will occupy much of the city one way or another on the last two weekends of April and the first of May. Much to see, do, and discover!
