Markets slide Tuesday morning

NEW YORK (UPI) -- Stock markets fell on Wall Street Tuesday morning after an S&P/Case-Shiller housing report showed price gains for U.S. homes slowed in July.

In midmorning trading, the Dow Jones Industrial average lost 37.91 points, 0.35 percent, to 10,774.13. The Standard & Poor's 500 index lost 0.49 percent, 5.62, to 1,136.54. The Nasdaq composite index lost 0.78 percent, 18.47, to 2,351.30.

The benchmark 10-year Treasury note rose 14/32 to yield 2.483 percent.

Chrysler fires 13 workers filmed drinking

DETROIT (UPI) -- Chrysler Group said Monday it fired 13 Detroit assembly plant workers filmed drinking alcohol and possibly smoking pot while on a lunch break at a nearby park.

Two other employees will be laid off for one month without pay.

Four in Middle East to open free trade

NEW YORK (UPI) -- Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Turkey had agreed to move forward on a regional free-trade zone.

Davutoglu told reporters in New York that a summit meeting in Istanbul would likely concluded with an announcement that the four-country trade agreement, including "visa-free" travel for the region, would begin in January.

KKR to take a majority stake in Visma

OSLO, Norway (UPI) -- Visma Holding said Monday the U.S. investment firm KKR & Co. will acquire more than three-quarters of the Norwegian technology firm.

The deal for 76.9 percent of Visma values the Nordic payroll and business software firm at $1.8 billion, The Norway Post reported.

In the deal, investment firm HGCapital will continue to own 17.7 percent of Visma, while Visma's management will increase its share to 5.3 percent.
