Bellefontaine Cemetery - 4947 West Florissant Ave

Join Metropolis St. Louis for a 4 mile bike ride through historic Bellefontaine Cemetery. 

Founded in 1849, the cemetery includes the graves and tombs of many notable St. Louisans such as Adolphus Busch and General William Clark. 

** We will also have the opportunity to go inside the Wainwright Tomb and the Lemp Family Tomb. 

Meet at the main entrance on W. Florissant Ave, park anywhere along the street. Take Hwy 70 to W. Florissant, do it.
FREE! Just bring your bike. Walkers are also welcome.

The Walk - The Dives of Soulard

The Walk, or more formally..."The Dive".
 
This month's Walk will be centered on "The Dive Bar"...which is defined below:

A dive bar is a type of bar or pub.
Dive bars generally have a relaxed and informal atmosphere-they are often referred to by local residents as "neighborhood bars," where people in the neighborhood gather to eat and drink and socialize.
 
6:00 pm - 7:00pm Gladstone's- 1800 South 10th Street 
 
7:00pm - 8:30pm Cat's Meow - 2600 S 11th Street

Metropolis invites you to a spook filled evening with the Historical Haunted Lemp Buildings!
 
We will begin the evening with food and drinks at The Stable (1821 Cherokee Street, Saint Louis) from 6:30pm to 8pm.
 
At 8pm we are giving you two options - either join Clayton as he takes you to Scarefest's "Lemp Brewery Haunted House" or join Chrissie for a "The Lemp Experience - a Hunt for Paranormal Activity" at the Lemp Mansion. (Mansion address - 3322 Demenil Place)

The Lemp Mansion also has it's own bar, which is open to the public at all hours. So if you are not in the mood for being scared or creeped out - hangout in the bar and listen to the staff tell you their spooky stories while enjoying a cool beverage.

Metropolis joins Fuel for Happy Hour!!
October 12 - 6:30pm

Join two great City focused organizations for happy hour, FUN, and food at one of South St. Louis City's premier "late night" lounges! We'll network, talk City, and sample Sandrina's yummy food from a complimentary appetizer buffet (6-7:30 PM). Happy hour prices will be offered at the bar until close (3 AM). Metropolis is an organization that works to create an environment in the City of St. Louis that attracts and retains young people (www.mstl.org). Fuel is an organizations that supports City neighborhood and community groups by providing volunteers to help with events and one day projects (www.fuelforthecity.org).

Downtown Architectural Walking Tours

Every Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. from April through October
$5 per person, 12 and under free. No reservations, just show up!

Downtown Architectural Walking Tour - East:
The Heart of St. Louis.
Metropolis offers a two-hour walking tour of the Heart of Downtown Saint Louis. The tour will explore the rich history and architectural legacy of the eastern side of Downtown, from the founding of the City through its modern development and continuing re-development. The tour will include the Old Cathedral, the Post Office District, the Wainwright Building, and the Eads Bridge, as well as modern contributions to the City's rich urban fabric such as the Arch, the General American Life Insurance Building and Busch Stadium.

Where : The tour begins outside the western entrance to the Old Courthouse, on Broadway between Market and Chestnut, opposite Kiener Plaza.

Downtown Architectural Walking Tour - West: : Beyond the Arch.
Metropolis, a volunteer organization dedicated to promoting the City of St. Louis, will offer a two-hour walking tour, highlighting the little known history and architectural significance of downtown St. Louis' Memorial Plaza and surrounding district. Historic buildings will include the Kiel Opera House, City Hall, the Soldiers Memorial, among others, and focus on how they played a role in the development and continuing re-development of the city.

Where: The tour begins on the sidewalk outside the Grand Hall/hotel entrance to Union Station just west of 18th street on Market.
