iPad cuts lead holiday tech discounts

NEW YORK (UPI) -- Apple says it has lowered the price of its popular iPad computers as technology prices remained competitive for the Christmas shopping crunch.

The price tags on all six models of the portable tablet iPad were cut by $41, making it possible to bag one for as little as $458.

Qantas replacing engines after explosion

SYDNEY (UPI) -- Australian airline Qantas said it was replacing 16 Rolls-Royce engines on A380 aircraft after an engine exploded Nov. 4 on a flight leaving Singapore.

"We're at the moment sourcing additional engines to re-engine those engines that are problematic on those aircraft, that may take a number of weeks," said Chief Executive Officer Alan Joyce, who flew the initial hop of a Sydney to Singapore to London flight on the first Qantas A380 to leave Sydney since the incident. <...

Chrysler-Fiat expect brands to blend

TURIN, Italy (UPI) -- U.S. automobile engines may head to Italy for cars to be sold back in the United States, Chrysler and Fiat's chief executive officer said.

Final production for the $1.32 billion project would take place at the Mirafiori auto plant in Turin, Italy, one of the largest in Europe with 5,500 workers, The Detroit News reported Saturday.

Just when needed, local colleges are full

LAS VEGAS (UPI) -- An increased need for worker retraining at U.S. community colleges is coinciding with state budget cutting, educators lamented.

In California, 140,000 potential students were shut out of community colleges in 2009 due to budget cuts, The Washington Post reported Saturday. Similarly, New York state started a waiting list in May, as community colleges became full.
