Ensemble
The clothes that made the music
Barry Manilow once sang of a place where music and fashion were always the passion, which was hilarious, because he sucks at both of them. Still, he had a point, and producing art that celebrates that tip is Ensemble.
A fresh poster series from design house Moxy Creative, Ensemble reps the sartorial statements of 20 different musicians spanning the last six decades of pop by laying out their outfits, which explains why the Red Hot Chili Peppers are missing. Back-in-the-day action includes the ubiquitous all-blackness of Johnny Cash, Miles Davis' simple gray sweater and black ascot, and Elvis' flamboyant, gold-trimmed white get-up, because 40 years ago nobody knew white men can't jumpsuit. Of more recent vintage're the gold chains & Adidas of Run DMC, the preppy pink button-down/green bow tie combo of Andre 3000, and the grungy patched jeans and worn Converses of Kurt Cobain, which though now outdated definitely used to get him some Hole.
For indecisive types, there's even a poster that highlights all 20 outfits, but thankfully no Manilow, as both his music and fashion were offensively Copacabanal.
