FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The U.S. National Team Navy defeated 1997 Region IV Black 1-0 in the opening game. Both teams needed to endure rain throughout the game, which led to a slow start for both sides. In the 20th minute the U.S. NT Navy grabbed what would be the game winning goal after Coy Craft received a throw in just outside the top of the penalty box, turned and fired past the outstretched Region IV keeper. The game opened up in the second half as Region IV started creating chances, but the U.S. defense was stout and prevented many shots on goal to secure the win. In the second game of the evening, the U.S. National Team Red put on a strong performance to defeat the 1997 Region II Red 3-0. In the 38th minute, the U.S. took the lead after a long switch from the right side of the field into the penalty box found the head of Sean Wilson, who nodded the ball into the six yard box to the feet of Benjamin Swanson. Swanson turned and slid a shot under Region II keeper Parker Siegfried for the opening score. In the 49th, Malcolm Dixon was sent on a breakaway and calmly finished to double the lead. Just four minutes later, Dixon grabbed his second and capped the scoring after a misplayed ball near the Region II box fell to Dixon and he fired a skipping shot into the side net.
