Easy Joe's
'70s-style eats in the old Tidbit spot
Scheduled to open today: 2359 10th Ave E; Capitol Hill; 206.325.1233

The '70s took the idealistic notions of the '60s to ludicrous extremes, which is why it comes as no surprise that your mom free-loved all over Spiro Agnew. For some guys who apparently missed all that, hit Easy Joe's.

The dudes behind this laid-back 50-seater are serving up Seattle-ized heartland foods inspired by their largely orgy-free '70s-suburbia upbringing, all in a hardwood-floored eat space featuring a tile-back-splashed bar hung with stainless retro-style lamps, a dining room boasting banquette'd tables covered in butcher paper, and walls covered in pictures of period-appropriate subjects like Gale Sayers & Joe Namath, though it'd be much more appropriate if they were plastered with him. The edible Americana includes Easy Joe's Lasagna w/ goat cheese, shrooms, zucchini & bechamel sauce; a sharp cheddar sauce'd Baked Mac & Cheese w/ a crispy crust; and a garlic mashed potato-topped Shepherd's Pie, unlike the Sam Sheppard pie, which will just elevate your horrible relationship with your father into high art. EJ's also got starters (Fresh Steamed Mussels, Blackened True Cod Sliders), and a mess 'o fist meals ranging from a hand-formed Mushroom Swiss Burger to a classic Sloppy Joe -- as bad as you want to eat it, it wants to kiss you more.

EJ offers a full bar, taps like Kona's Pipeline Porter and an IPA by Big Al, and a solid selection of reds and whites including Fly Over Red Merlot/Cab Franc and a Chardonnay by Happy Camper, which is what Agnew was while he was authoring the bio of your life: My Father, The Spiro.

Harken back to a time when Spiro Agnew was doing things to ruin your appetite with this menu
