Sports Update For Indiana Wednesday November 3, 2010 | | Baseball Vizquel, 43, gets another year with Chisox CHICAGO (UPI) -- Forty-year-old infielder Omar Vizquel will be back with the Chicago White Sox next season, the team announced Tuesday. The Sox said they had agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the 11-time Gold Glove winner, under which he will make $1.75 million in 2011. Only Ozzie Smith with 13 has won more Gold Gloves at shortstop than Vizquel. The 22-year veteran hit .276 with two home runs and 30 runs batted in 108 games with the White Sox last season. Among his accomplishments, Vizquel has played more games at shortstop than any other player in major league history and sports a .985 career fielding percentage there, the highest ever by any shortstop with at least 1,000 games played. State's Nick Bell dies of cancer STARKVILLE, Miss. (UPI) -- Mississippi State defensive end Nick Bell has died at age 20 after a battle with cancer, school officials announced Tuesday. MSU head football Coach Dan Mullen confirmed the redshirt sophomore's death in a statement posted on the team's Web site. "This is a tragedy for Nick's family, our football program, our community and everyone who had the privilege to meet and be around Nick Bell," Mullen said. "Nick was a son and a brother to our football family and I know he will continue to look over us from heaven." The school said Bell died Tuesday at the University of Alabama-Birmingham Medical Center. He was diagnosed with cancer this fall after playing the first four games of the 2010 season for the Bulldogs. In his 16-game career with Mississippi State, Bell recorded 22 total tackles, including seven this season. He was credited with one tackle in the Bulldogs' season-opening loss against Memphis and another against Louisiana State. Torres had already notched a pair of first-period goals to give the Canucks a 3-0 advantage, but it was his final tally that turned out to be the game-winner. Dustin Penner, Ryan Jones and Gilbert Brule all scored to bring the Oilers even at 3-3. But with 10:53 remaining, Torres got off a soft back-hander that may have been intended as a pass but snuck past Nikolai Khabibulin for the go-ahead tally. Torres also leveled a tremendous hit on the Oilers' Andrew Cogliano after Edmonton had pulled Khabibulin and was pressing for the tying goal. Roberto Luongo stopped 23-of-26 shots and Daniel Sedin scored his eighth goal for Vancouver, which got its first road win of the season. Khabibulin made 26 saves for Edmonton.
