Arkansas blackbird flock knocked from sky

BEEBE, Ark. (UPI) -- Wildlife experts in Arkansas believe high-altitude lightning or hail killed more than 1,000 blackbirds that literally fell from the sky on New Year's Eve.

The strange site occurred in the city of Beebe just before midnight as dead birds crashed to earth within a 1-square mile area of town.

"Shortly after I arrived there were still birds falling from the sky," said Arkansas Fish and Game Commission Officer Robby King.

Egyptians march to protest bombing

CAIRO (UPI) -- Hundreds of Egyptians participated in a demonstration to condemn those responsible for a church explosion that killed 21 Coptic Christians, officials said.

In downtown Cairo, Sunday's marchers included some 500 Muslim and Coptic activists, politicians and other leaders, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The marchers were demonstrating against the attack that occurred in the early hours of 2011 in the coastal city of Alexandria.

New U.S. drone 'can see everything'

WASHINGTON (UPI) -- The U.S. Air Force is developing a new drone aircraft can "see everything" using nine cameras that can send up to 65 different images, military officials said.

Maj. Gen. James Poss, the Air Force's assistant deputy chief of staff for intelligence, told The Washington Post the new Gorgon Stare craft has been in the works for a year and a half and should be ready to deploy in Afghanistan within 2 months.

Ahmadinejad's car gets $1 million bid

TEHRAN (UPI) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's 33-year old car received a $1 million bid from an anonymous buyer at an auction for charity, officials in Tehran said.

Ahmad Esfandiari, the head of Iran's Welfare Organization said the winning bid came from an unnamed Arab collector, GulfNews.com said Sunday.
