Kabul blast kills, wounds several

KABUL, Afghanistan (UPI) -- A suicide motorcycle bomber set off a blast Wednesday in front of a hospital in Afghanistan's capital Kabul, killing and injuring several people, NATO said.

The report said at least two people died including a member of the National Directorate of Security and 32 more were wounded in the attack, NATO's International Security Assistance Force said on its Web site. The report said those wounded included personnel of the security directorate and civilians. <...

Evacuations on as floods strike Brisbane

BRISBANE, Australia (UPI) -- Evacuations were under way in Brisbane, Australia, as waters flooded 34 of the city's suburbs and the Brisbane River crept higher.

Officials said as many as 40,000 private, commercial and public properties, and 50 Brisbane-area suburbs eventually will be affected by the flooding that has ravaged Queensland, The (Brisbane) Courier-Mail reported.

Blizzard hits U.S. Northeast -- again

NEW YORK (UPI) -- The beleaguered Northeast region of the United States hunkered down -- again -- Wednesday as another blizzard blanketed the area.

Blizzard conditions in New England Wednesday, created nightmares for travelers and residents along a line that included the cities of Providence, R.I., Boston and Portland, Maine, Accuweather.com reported.

6 killed in Tucson remembered at mass

TUCSON (UPI) -- Christina Green and those who died with her were remembered Tuesday in a memorial mass at the Tucson church where the 9-year-old had her first communion.

Bishop Gerald Kicanas gave the homily at St. Odilia Roman Catholic Church, the Arizona Star reported. The service was called a Mass for the Healing of Our Community, and the church, which holds about 700, was packed -- with more people watching a TV feed in the parish hall.
