Dying Breeds
Draw un-disgusted attention to your waistline
Talking to an old-fashioned grandparent about your choice of career can often lead to serious spats, or it would, if most of the top universities hadn't dropped their programs in dress shoe design years ago. For belts actually encouraged by Gramps, wrap yourself in Dying Breeds.
From an Evergreen-based printmaking BFA whose grandpa gifted him tips from years of metalworking experience (...and access to his metalshop), DB handcrafts wildly patterned, hued, and textured leather belts that look almost hieroglyphic, using "the Old World art forms of printmaking and blacksmithing" -- a heartwarming response to the question: why can't the pen and sword just get along? Using a "relief printing process to press images, dye and colorize" the straps with "colorful, comedic imagery", the (mostly aquatically themed) waist-holders run from mermaid patterns in seafaring colors, to depressed looking whales in blue/ black or cherry/ black, to brown/ purple/ pink horned chameleons, who may've already killed and replaced TCU's mascot...we just wouldn't know! He's also got a slew of handsome buckles crafted from mild steel or copper using an equally creative eye, with designs like the circular Compass or more bulbous, oval Turtle Shell, all available riveted or non, and brushed/colored with silver, copper, or "blackened steel", also the name of an upcoming sequel where, in an Eddie Murphy-esque turn, Judd Nelson's been replaced by also-Shaq.
While they're currently available online, come spring/summer, Dying Breeds'll also be peddling their wares and such at shindigs like Boulder Creek Fest, Colorado Mountain Fair, and Art in the Park in Steamboat, also what Grandpa keeps insisting your minor should be.
