China Spring Festival rush under way

BEIJING (UPI) -- Millions of Chinese are home for the Spring Festival with railroad executives predicting 2.85 billion tickets will be sold for the 40-day period.

The travel rush began Jan. 19, Xinhua, the official government news agency reported. The Spring Festival or Lunar New Year has been an important holiday for centuries but overcrowded trains became a major feature only in recent decades as rural families were split up when some members moved to cities to work.

Ground Zero mosque open to new site

WASHINGTON (UPI) -- A Muslim cleric says he would be open to moving the site of the so-called Ground Zero mosque in New York to a different location.

Imam Feisel Abdul Rauf told the Buffalo (N.Y.) News that he would be open to building on a different site should one be offered.

"I would move because my whole life is about improving relationships with people, and once the project is established, it will have an impact," Rauf said.

Tuskegee Airmen to speak at museum

NORFOLK, Va. (UPI) -- Two surviving members of the Tuskegee Airmen say they will recount their experiences at Virginia's MacArthur Memorial museum as part of Black History Month.

Speakers Grant Williams, 90, and Harry Quinton, 85, are believed to be among only 297 Tuskegee Airmen alive to accurately retell the stories of their fight for the right to fight for their country during World War II, The (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot reported Sunday.

London vicar criticizes ban on strip clubs

LONDON (UPI) -- A British vicar says a town council's move to ban strip clubs and sex shops is a bad idea because it could lead to an increase in street crime.

The Rev. Paul Turp said the zero-tolerance policy approved by the Hackney council in London would push women who currently work in blue venues into the streets.

"The council has created a problem where there wasn't one to begin with," said Turp. "They deliberately disregarded the views of the people."
