(UPI) -- The Buffalo Bills said Saturday they have signed injured linebacker Shawne Merriman to a new contract. The Bills didn't release the terms of the deal, but multiple media reports indicated it was for two years. Merriman came to Buffalo after the Bills claimed him off waivers from San Diego in early November. He was idled due to calf and Achilles injuries after Oct. 10 and didn't play a down after he was obtained by the Bills. The Chargers had placed the linebacker on injured reserve Oct. 13 with a minor-injury designation. For the season, Merriman, 26, collected just six tackles in three games. Merriman racked up 231 tackles, 43 1/2 sacks and one interception with the Chargers in 60 games over six seasons. The annual Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic will face off at 8 p.m. EST at Heinz Field in order to avoid a steady rain expected to begin during the afternoon hours. "There is a 95-percent chance that we're going to have a pretty steady rain at 1 o'clock," NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly told NHL.com. "With all of the different accommodations that have to be made, we felt like it would be better to minimize the inconvenience of the fans particularly; but also for all the other stakeholders in the game." The game will be telecast at its new time on both NBC in the United States and the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. CBC viewers in Toronto and Ottawa, however, will see the Saturday night clash between the Maple Leafs and Senators. The time change will require some juggling of fans' schedules; however some of the participants in the game told NHL.com they felt better about playing a night game because it put them on their usual pre-game schedule. In each of the last two seasons, he has chosen to play on loan with Italian Serie A league leaders AC Milan. This year, several British clubs are interested in signing Beckham to a short-term loan. CNN said the midfielder is favoring the Spurs because of the club's north London proximity to his British residence in Hertfordshire.
