There is also an Academic Forum, the CIO Colloquium, which aims at bridging the gap between industry and Academia - an important factor in encouraging an entrepreneurial culture.

Geek Girl Dinner
When: Tuesday 08 March, 2011 at 19:00
Where: The Woodlands Eatery, 2 Deer Park Ave West, Vredehoek, Cape Town
This is the first of a new series of meet-up, the Geek Girl Dinner Cape Town or GGDCT. This event is aimed at bringing together girls in tech and provide a platform for them to interact and network. Guys are also allowed - but must be invited by one of the girls attending. This is the first of the series and with only 50 seats available, it is bound to be booked soon.
CLUG - Cape Linux Users Group
When: Tuesday 08 March 2011, at 18:30
Where: UCT Chemical Engineering Seminar Room
The CLUG aim is to promote Linux and to create opportunities for interested individuals to meet and share knowledge. So if you're into Linux be sure not to miss out. This weeks Topic is "Using the Centre for High Performance Computing" by Andy Rabagliati.
Cape Town Ruby Brigade - Mobile Application Development with Rhodes
When: 9th March 2011 at 19:00
Where: Room 414, Bandwidth Barn, 125 Buitengracht, Cape Town
Ben Hart will be speaking about Rhodes, a Ruby based framework allowing cross platform mobile application development.
"Rhodes is an open source Ruby-based framework to rapidly build native apps for all major smartphone operating systems. These are true native device applications (NOT mobile web apps) which work with synchronized local data and take advantage of device capabilities such as GPS, PIM contacts and calendar, camera, native mapping, push, barcode, signature capture, and Bluetooth."
ICT CIO Academic Colloquium
When: Thursday and Friday 10 & 11 March
Where: Faculty of Informatics and Design, Marc Building, CPUT, 80 Roeland Street (map)
This is a forum designed at creating channels of communication and dialogue between Academic Institutions and Industry. If you're thinking of attending this, make sure not to miss the first afternoon's panel discussion on "A Critical View of ICT in the Western Cape." There is a cost for the event but there are free seats being offered to Silicon Cape members, so be sure to contact Bridgette if you are interested in attending.
