Stunt pilot couple survives Texas plane crash

Brownsville, Texas, United States (AHN) - A wing-walking stunt routine nearly turned deadly for a husband and wife flying team during an air show in Texas on Saturday.

During the Air Fiesta Airshow near the Brownsville area, Kyle and Amanda Franklin were performing an act where Kyle flew the plane while Amanda walked on its wing.

U.S. protests contractor's Cuba sentence

WASHINGTON (UPI) -- The Obama administration has protested the sentencing of a U.S. national to 15 years in prison by a Cuban court.

Maryland resident Alan Gross, 61, was sentenced Saturday for "crimes against the state" following his arrest in 2009 while working to bring Internet service to Cuba's Jewish community.

Ambush of van in Pakistan kills 10

HANGU, Pakistan (UPI) -- Pakistani authorities said at least 10 people were killed when gunmen fired at a van in the Hangu district Sunday.

Another seven people were wounded in the apparent ambush by militants about 93 miles southwest of Peshwar, GEO News said.

Details of the attack were still unavailable Sunday although security officials said three of the six alleged attackers were tracked down and killed.

Thousands protest monarchy in Bahrain

MANAMA, Bahrain (UPI) -- More than 5,000 people marched Sunday in Bahrain's capital Manama, calling for the monarchy to be replaced, security officials said.

Of three protests, the largest was at Bahrain University, where thousands of students were confronted by about 150 supporters of the monarchy, CNN reported.

Witnesses told the broadcaster some people were injured in the confrontation, but there were no further details.
