Move Michelangelo 'David' underground?

FLORENCE, Italy (UPI) -- An Italian architect urged authorities to move Michelangelo's David statue to an underground museum before work begins on a Florence train tunnel.

Toddlers from day care wander into street

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (UPI) -- Police in Mooresville, N.C., say a gust of wind apparently blew open a latched gate at a day-care center, allowing a group of toddlers to get into the street.

Several drivers stopped Tuesday when they saw the 2-year-olds, four of them in the street and two on the curb, The Charlotte Observer reported.

Abortion deaths up Philly homicide stats

PHILADELPHIA (UPI) -- The seven newborn babies allegedly killed by a Philadelphia abortion doctor and his staff will swell this year's homicide statistics, police said.

Lt. Ray Evers said all seven will be classified as black and male, the Philadelphia Daily News reported. He said the race and gender of only one, a black male, is known, but the FBI statistical system requires homicide victims be classified by race and gender, and most of Dr. Kermit Gosnell's patients were black.

Six women shot dead in Ivory Coast

ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast (UPI) -- Soldiers loyal to embattled Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo shot and killed at least six women protesters calling on him to step down, witnesses said.

Several other unarmed women were wounded when soldiers in vehicles opened fire on their march Thursday in the country's commercial capital and former official capital, Abidjan.

The women supported the political alliance of Gbagbo rival Alassane Ouattara, the BBC reported.
