The SOLD Project
Thank you!

17 at-risk children have found sponsors. And their lives have changed forever.

A few weeks ago, we told you that 17 students needed sponsors to continue in school. Statistically, more than half of these kids would have been forced by poverty to drop out of school before grade seven. Now, all of them can stay in school!

Also, we'd love to introduce you to Nim. Nim joined our staff earlier this year and has been working wonders as our Scholarship Manager and After-School Program Director. Under her leadership, daily attendance at the Resource Center has doubled and the kids are absolutely in love with her. She was recently accepted to study Elementary Education at a local university, so she's also our newest scholarship student!

Nim's story, in her own words:

NimI started school later in life. I was ten years old when I entered 1st grade. I didn’t know where I was supposed to go and study because my parents didn’t encourage it. When I finished 6th grade I was 15 years old. My parents didn’t want me to continue studying because our family is so poor. They wanted me to live at home to help take care of them, as well as my brothers and sisters. My parents are both farmers. I have three brothers and two sisters (one of my siblings passed away). My siblings all graduated 9th grade and then dropped out. But I really wanted to study, so I moved down from the village, closer to the city, and tried to rent a house and go study at Bongprae Wittaya. I continued to study at Bongprae Wittaya until I graduated grade 9. Even then, my parents still didn’t want me to study because it would be so expensive to go to high school. We couldn’t afford the tuition, books, uniforms, etc. But I still really wanted to study, so I found a part time job to be able to go back to high school. Then I went to Phayao to study in Bible School. I met my husband there. After we graduated, we got married and had one daughter, Happy, who was born in 2006.

For my life, I want to have more opportunity for education because in the past I didn’t have good opportunities. I’m still figuring out what I want to do with my life, but I know I want to work with kids. I have always wanted to study at the University to get a Bachelor’s degree and now I have the opportunity to go to Radjapat University to get my Bachelor’s in Elementary Education. I love working with The SOLD Project because I get to interact with kids everyday.

We're so proud of her! If you'd still like to sponsor a student, Nim is looking for a sponsor to give $55/month to help cover the cost of her university education.

Sponsor Nim or Join the Waiting ListNim with Kids at the Resource Center

Another way you can support Nim, Blah, Tawee, Jade, and all the prevention programs they help run at the Resource Center is by joining our Stand 4 Freedom campaign and giving $16/month. These recurring gifts enable us to hire and pay Thai staff, run the Resource Center, and develop and run the programs that so many children benefit from every day.

Either way, our staff and the children they serve need individuals like you. For a small monthly sacrifice, you can help support Nim and the invaluable relationships, stability, and educational resources she and her colleagues provide to these at-risk children. Again, thank you for being a part of this work. Together, we're making a difference.
