Samaritan to pay for stolen cookies ST. PAUL, Minn. (UPI) -- A Minnesota Realtor has committed a random act of kindness -- he decided to pay for nearly $1,000 worth of stolen Girl Scout cookies. Keith Keeley, owner of the real estate company Keeley Properties in Stillwater, read about the theft of 252 boxes of cookies and $90 in cash from the same Girl Scout troop his granddaughter once belonged to, the St. Paul (Minn.) Pioneer Express reported. "I felt so sorry, reading about it. It touched my heart," Keeley said. "It ruined those kids' dreams." The cookies and cash were stolen from a van belonging to Kathi Eastlund on Feb. 18, while her daughter Sara, and other Girl Scouts were attending a movie before launching their day of cookie sales in the parking lot of the Woodbury 10 Theatre. "Wow, are you kidding?" Eastlund said when she heard the news. Keely plans to take his granddaughter, Abbey Mears, with him when he drops off the check. Kiss star gets his tongue on rubber NEW YORK (UPI) -- The lascivious tongue of Kiss's Gene Simmons will adorn the first Food and Drug Administration-approved "picture condoms," the manufacturer said Wednesday. Graphic Armor Inc. said Condomania's Kiss Kondoms, which have long carried images of the rock band on their boxes and wrappers, will now have Simmons' "iconic fully extended tongue" running down the length of the condom itself. "With Gene's tongue leading the way once again, I am confident we are about to see an explosion of marketing messages and logos displayed on millions of condoms in action," said Adam Glickman, Condomania's chief executive. The Simmons condoms go on sale in April. "Studded Paul," featuring an image of bandmate Paul Stanley, is to follow by June. Copyright 2011 by United Press International

Georgia house infested with 20,000 bats TIFTON, Ga. (UPI) -- An empty home in Georgia is infested with as many as 20,000 bats and officials say they've declared it unfit for human habitation until the bats are cleared. "The interior and exterior walls are just full of guano," Melissa Skidmore of Tru Tech, an animal removal service, said of the home in Tifton, Ga. "Some of it is old and has turned to dust and it is just a cocktail of pathogens. People going in will need proper equipment to cover their skin, clothes and noses. We are talking about between 10,000 and 20,000 bats," Skidmore told The Tifton Gazette Monday. The infestation of Mexican free-tailed bats was one of the worse she had ever seen, she said. A local code enforcement officer said he had no choice but to post the declaration when he saw several live bats upstairs and spotted several dead bats on the bottom floor of the house. "We just want to get the neighborhood safe," Russel Gay said. "It really doesn't need to sit here like this for another six months." Local real estate agent Julie Smith said the house is in foreclosure with an agency that has a buyer interested in purchasing the house. "The goal is for everyone to work together so that a family can live here safely," Smith said. "We hope it can again become a house in the historic district that is a viable property on the tax digest." Copyright 2011 by United Press International

Man charged in cheeseburger assault LAKEWOOD PARK, Fla. (UPI) -- A Florida man who allegedly threw a cheeseburger at another customer's vehicle in a McDonald's drive-through faces a misdemeanor charge, officials said. Brant Goodwin Stephens, 43, of Lakewood Park was arrested on a criminal mischief charge in connection with the incident, TCPalm.com reported Monday. A St. Lucie County sheriff's deputy went to a house in Fort Pierce, Fla., where the victim told him someone threw a burger at his vehicle's passenger side while he was in the drive-through of a McDonald's fast-food restaurant. Investigators said they found a "large spot" of ketchup measuring 6 inches by 6 inches on the side of the victim's vehicle and cheeseburger pieces on the hood. The victim got the alleged cheeseburger chucker's license number, and investigators said they traced the vehicle to Stephens. "I threw a cheeseburger at that (racial epithet's) truck," Stephens reportedly told police. "He pissed me off and if I have to go to jail for it then that's OK."
